IRELAND
The Kerry-way 1
Walking further to the west the route offers you
great panorama’s of the Dingle-bay and
the Dingle peninsula.
In the far west you can admire the Atlantic Ocean. The route goes through “old paths” and green roads.
Especially near the villages and little towns the “old paths” are changed
into “asphalt roads”. Ireland is , economically, booming. With all the
“symbols“, like iron fences, clean second homes, “private property”, “watch the dogs”,
deviations and claiming the farmer for accidents. And so on. Nevertheless,
the Kerry-way is a great walk. The maps:
Ordnance Survey of Ireland , numbers 83 and 78. A flight to Cork, the direct bus to Killarney ( 1
1/2 hours) where we started. You also can start in Kenmare. |

On the route: Muckross House, Lough Leane, the Torc
falls, the desolate Black Valley and the fantastic cross over the
Maggillycuddy’s. After that the rewarding view at Lough Acoose, the Windy Cap
near Glenbeigh and the view at Dingle-bay while walking the uplands near
Drung Hill. And, at the end, the Atlantic Ocean! It’s almost too much in such a short time.…….. Short “dialogue” with the owner of the B&B in
Black valley: “Sir, you live in paradise!” “Well,….in summer it’s green, in winter brown,
nothing changes……….” |
