Visegrad and Matra mountains Tips: At the time we walked in the region of Visegrad and
the Matra mountains it was difficult to find a suitable map and a place to
sleep. So, we spend a lot time on traveling by bus and train. However, many
visitors of this site told us - more recently - that nowadays many things are
changed, also concerning trail information and possibilities to eat and
sleep. Good maps are available now. Nevertheless, we had a great time; the
dramatic view at the Danube-knee on height, the enormous beech forests in the
Matra mountains, steep, rough slopes, a rich flora and fauna and the silence
in the valleys. |

Easter
1998: a round walk full of difficulties, starting and ending in Visegrad. In Visegrad visit first the castle at the top of the
rock. Admire the Danube and after that cross the river by ferry-boat and -at
the other bank- upwards for a splendid view at the Danube-knee. And, as we said: on height we started our trip in
finding…….but: the situation is improving. |

On the route: a diverse
vegetation, ideal natural habitats for many birds, the red deer, a
vineyard-covered landscape, steep, rugged slopes, screes, talus slopes and
slides…….old villages…... |
